How to Create a New Unit

Units are the tables, rooms, seats, or bays you assign orders to on the POS Units screen. Bookings and the waiting list can point at them too.

Before you start

A paid plan (Starter or up).
The Areas · Modify permission. Units use the area permissions.
Create areas first if you want units grouped by zone.

Steps

Open Units

Open Configurations. Under Operations, tap Units.

Tap New Unit

Tap New Unit. The button shows only to people who may change areas.

Fill in the unit

Leave Enable on so the unit appears on POS. Enter a Name, such as Table 1, Room 2, or Seat A. Enter a Capacity, the most people it holds (at least 1). Optionally pick an Area.

Save

Tap Save. The unit is ready on POS → Units, saved as available.

What happens next

The unit appears on the register's Units grid, under its area, with the status Available.
Other devices are told only on plans with live sync.

Edge cases

No limit on units. Only areas have a plan limit.
Capacity is 0 to 255 on the server. The form asks for at least 1.
A new area is not in the picker yet? Tap the refresh button beside the picker, or tap New Area under it. When you save the area you come back here and can pick it.
Area is optional. A unit with no area cannot be placed on a floor plan.
A server error about the area shows under Capacity instead of under Area.
The Areas pages can show the unit under its old area for up to six hours, or until an area is saved, because the server keeps a saved copy of each area's units.
