Pairing Terminals

A terminal is a registered device such as an iPad or a web register. A manager makes a one-time code and the device enters it. The code is the authorization, so no extra permission is needed to claim it.

Steps

Generate a pairing code (manager)

Open the Terminal screen on the device or the registry, choose to add a terminal, and enter a name. Tap Generate code. The 8-character code is shown once and is valid for 15 minutes.

On the device, with someone signed in, open Terminal, type the code and tap Register device. It registers under the name you set.

In Registered terminals, the device shows Online within a minute of the app being open. Rename or revoke a terminal from here.

What happens next

The device can now take part in sign-ins. With Require a registered terminal on, only registered devices can ring up a sale.

Edge cases

Online and Offline. A terminal reports in once a minute while the app is open, so it reads Online within three minutes and Offline after that. Last seen is the time of its last report. A suspended or unpaired device cannot report in.
Wrong or used code. A wrong code is refused, and a used or expired one too. Attempts are rate-limited, and two devices cannot claim one code at once.
Revoke. Unbinds the device and closes the session of anyone signed in on it. It must be registered again before taking orders. Nobody can sign in, unlock or ask for an approval on a revoked or suspended terminal, and the terminal is checked before the PIN or badge, so a refused attempt does not count against a badge. The app has no suspend button, but the server can suspend one.
Direct registration. A manager can register the current device without a code. That path writes no activity entry and records nobody as the person who paired it.
Registration is tied to the device ID under Settings, Device. Reinstalling the app or regenerating the ID breaks it, so pair again.
Require a registered terminal is off by default. When on, the register shows a full-screen gate on an unregistered device, and editing or voiding an order is checked too.
A suspended terminal can still open the register normally in some cases. Check the registry if a device behaves oddly.
