Deleting a Tax
Delete a tax when it should no longer be attachable to products or applied on new orders. If you only need a different percentage, update the rate instead.
Before you start
- A plan with Taxes (Starter or up).
- The Taxes · Delete permission.
Steps

Go to Taxes
Open the sidebar menu and go to Configurations. Under Payments & Tax, select Taxes.

Delete
Tap Delete on the tax you want to remove, or open the tax and use Delete on its page.

Confirm
A confirmation prompt appears. Confirm to finish.
What happens next
- Every item that used this tax is set to no tax.
- Past order lines keep their copy of the rate, so completed orders keep their historical totals.
- Other devices are told only on plans with live sync.
Edge cases
- Deleting detaches the tax from every product, silently. You do not have to unlink products first, but those items then sell tax-free until you attach a replacement. The confirmation does not say which items are affected, so note which products use the tax first.
- There is no switch to turn a tax off. To stop charging tax for a while, turn off the Charge tax preference instead of deleting. See Store Preferences.
- The register can lag for up to 5 minutes, because it is not refreshed when a tax is deleted.
- Already gone? Deleting a tax that is already deleted still answers success.
