Creating a Tax

Create a tax rate once, then attach it to catalog items. Rates you create here appear in the product Tax picker and on the register.

Paid plan required. Taxes is available on any paid plan (Starter and up). It is not included on the free Basic plan. View plans

Steps

Open the menu

Click the sidebar menu icon to open navigation.

Go to Taxes

Go to Configurations. Under Payments & Tax, select Taxes.

Add a tax

Tap New Tax.

Fill in the details

Fill in the tax details.

  • Name (required) — for example VAT 12%
  • Description (optional)
  • Rate TypePercentage for a normal VAT or sales tax, Fixed for a flat per-item levy
  • Rate — the percent for a percentage tax (for example 12 for 12% VAT), or the amount per item for a fixed tax (for example 2 for a ₱2 bag charge)

Save

Save. The new tax appears in the Taxes list and can be attached on a product's Tax tab.

Tips

  • Use clear names staff will recognize on receipts and reports.
  • Pick Percentage unless you are charging a flat per-unit amount — a percentage rate is capped at 100, while a fixed rate is an amount in your store currency and has no such limit.
  • Prices you enter on products are tax-inclusive for both rate types: the tax is extracted from the price, not added on top. See Tax Overview.
  • Template-seeded taxes (from store setup) follow the same list — you can edit them here when Tax is unlocked.
