How to Remove a Payment Method

Applies toEvery plan, including free BasicUsually owner

You can remove outdated or unused payment methods from your account.

Billing during Early Release

Plan changes and billing are paused during Early Release. Payment method management may be hidden while the pause is on.

On the web

  1. Sign in and open Subscription (/account/subscription).
  2. Under Payment Methods, select the method you want to remove.

  1. Select Delete Payment Method.
  2. Confirm when prompted.

Delete Payment Method?

In the app

  1. Open the main menu → Account → Subscription.
  2. Open the payment method (detail route under /account/subscription/payment-methods/…).
  3. Tap Delete Payment Method.
  4. Confirm with Delete Payment Method in the dialog.

Important

  • If you remove your default method, set another card as default before the next renewal.
  • If you have no saved default payment method, paid add-ons that already ran out their paid period will not renew on the plan invoice (they ride out, then lapse). Your plan may also fail to renew until a card is added again. Removing a card does not wipe store history.
  • You can add a payment method again at any time when the control is shown.

Edge cases

  • Removing the default makes the most recently added other card the default.
  • Removing your last card is allowed, but with a paid store the next renewal cannot be charged: paid add-ons stop after their period and each paid store drops to Basic.

Store ownerPlans, add-ons and cards belong to the account of the store's owner. Only the owner (or, for an organization, its owner) can change a plan or an add-on.
Early releaseWhile payments are paused the card section, coupon card, Cancel and recent invoices on Subscription are hidden, and the trial reads as free with no end date. This page describes how it works once billing is live.
