Customer Cards

A customer card lets staff find a customer with one tap instead of typing a phone number. It works only at your store. A QR card needs nothing extra. Writing an NFC card needs the NFC add-on and a device that can write tags.

Before you start

  • Customer cards are on in Preferences.
  • For an NFC card: the NFC add-on, NFC · Modify, and a device that can write tags.

Steps

1

Open the customer

Open Customers and choose the customer.

Write an NFC card

Tap ⋯ → Write NFC card, or Write NFC card on the Cards card. The window opens ready at once. You can also start from Configurations → NFC → Write tag with Tag type set to Customer card.

Hold the card until Done

Hold a blank tag to your phone or counter reader and keep it still until Done. The card is created, written, locked and paired to that tag in one step. Tap Write another card for a second.

Or create a QR card

On the Cards card, pick Create QR card. Copy, share or download the QR to print or send it. It is shown only once.

Use it

At the register tap the NFC button and hold the card, or scan a QR card. In a Customer sheet, tap the card icon at the top and hold the card. Elsewhere, tap the card button on any POS screen, or Scan card in the side menu.

What happens next

  • At the register the customer is added to the sale, with their points and gift cards ready. Anywhere else the card opens their summary: points, gift cards, open orders, today's bookings and their place on the waiting list, with Start a sale and Open profile. Each part shows only what you may see.

Edge cases

  • Replacing a customer. If the sale already has a different customer, the app asks first.
  • Cancel before the tag is written and the card is removed. Once written, Cancel keeps it. On an iPhone, closing Ready to Scan shows Scan cancelled with Try again and Cancel. If it says couldn't be locked, hold the same card and tap Try again. If it says Not paired yet, tap Try pairing again.
  • Never overwrites a card in use. The app won't write over a customer card or staff badge still in use. If it cannot check, for example offline, it stops too.
  • Lost cards. On the Cards card choose Revoke. It stops at once, and the app may ask Erase the card too? Tap Erase now and hold the card to reuse it. A customer can hold several cards, each revoked on its own.
  • Reusing a tag. Use Configurations → NFC → Erase tag. A card still in use asks Erase a customer card? first.
  • Android reads without tapping while a POS screen is open. Turn that off under App Settings → Point of Sale → Read cards without tapping. A locked terminal ignores customer cards. Only a staff badge unlocks it.
  • Let customers see their points. Under Preferences → Printing & Devices → NFC → Customer cards, turn on Let customers see their points. A customer who taps their own card sees your store, a shortened name such as K••• D., their tier and points, and what the points are worth. It is off by default, also for cards already given out. Points need the Loyalty add-on. A non-member sees Join the points program at the counter, and a suspended one sees no points until you Resume earning.
  • Points history. A loyalty member can tap See your points history. A 6-digit code goes to the mobile number or email you saved, by text where offered in your country, otherwise email. It works for 5 minutes, locks for 15 after 5 wrong codes, and a card gets 3 codes an hour and 10 a day. The phone then shows 90 days of points movements with order or refund numbers, never what they bought. The texts do not use your SMS wallet. Keep contact details right, because whoever holds the saved number or email can read the history.
  • Safety. The card holds only a random code. One answer, This card isn't valid here, covers unknown, revoked, other-store and mispaired cards. A copy of an NFC card's code does not work at the register. The page never shows a full name, number or email. Revoke a lost card and the page stops showing the customer on the next load.
  • Turning cards off. Customer cards in Preferences switches the feature off, even without the NFC add-on. Nothing is deleted, and they work again when it is back on.
