Table Tags and Order Codes
A tag on the table lets a customer tap their phone and see their own order: where it is, what is on it, and what is left to pay. No app, no sign-in, and no server to flag down. The tag names the table, never an order, so tapping it alone shows your menu and store, not what the table ordered.
Before you start
- Units set up in Configurations.
- The store is discoverable.
Steps
Turn the lookup on
Open Preferences → Storefront and turn on Let customers look up their order with the code on their bill. It is on by default.

Make a code for each table
Open Units, then the table's QR action. Print it, show it on screen, or write it to a tag from the same card.

Put it where people sit
On a stand, in a menu holder, or under the table edge, anywhere a phone can reach without moving furniture.

Hand over the bill
Each open order has its own 4-digit order code, printed on the customer bill, the sales receipt and the queue ticket.

What happens next
- A customer taps the tag. If they ordered on their own phone, their browser remembers the order and shows it straight away. Otherwise they type the four digits from their bill.
- When an order closes its code is retired, so yesterday's code opens nothing.
Edge cases
- New code. For a smudged bill or a code that reached the wrong person, open Orders → the order → New code. The old code stops working at once. It also clears a locked table, and is refused on a closed order.
- Too many wrong codes at one table make it stop answering for a few minutes. It clears itself, or when you issue a new code.
- Turning the setting off does two things. The code stops printing and the table page stops accepting codes. Customers who ordered on their own phone can still follow their order.
- The store must be discoverable, and what the customer then sees follows the live-status setting.
- Moving the order to another table moves the lookup with it, so the code follows the guests.
- A fully voided order retires its code.
- The tag can't show a table's order to someone walking past, can't browse other tables, and never needs reprinting.
- Units need Starter and up.
