# How to Update a Tax

You can change a tax name, rate, or type at any time. Updates take effect immediately for all new sales.

## Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the **sidebar menu**.
2. Select **Store Settings**.
3. Select **Taxes** to open the tax management page.
4. Click on the tax you want to update.
5. Edit the fields you need to change. See [Field Explanations](/docs/store/tax/overview#field-explanations) for details on each field.
6. Click **Save**. Your changes apply to new sales right away.

## Tips

- Double-check your changes before saving to avoid receipt errors.
- Ask your accountant if you are unsure about a setting.
- You can always edit or remove taxes later as rates or laws change.
- Use clear names so staff and customers understand each tax.

- Review your tax settings regularly, especially after menu, price, or regulatory changes.
- Train staff on how taxes appear on receipts and how to handle exemptions.
