# Claim Tags

A claim tag is a reusable NFC tag you hand the customer at drop-off, one per bag. At pickup, a tap finds the order, and each tag is tapped back in before the order can be collected. No bag leaves without its tag, or a release for a lost one.

Claim tags are part of the **NFC** add-on. Turn them on in **Configurations →
Preferences → Printing & Devices → NFC → Claim tags** (on by default for
laundry and repair stores). Tapping tags needs a phone or tablet with NFC, or
a Hub reader on a computer.

## Adding your tags

Staff who can manage NFC add tags. Everyone else can look at the list.

In **POS**, open **Claim tags** from the side menu or **Quick Access**, then
    tap **Add tags**.

**Next number** shows the number the next tag will get. Hold a new tag to
the device and keep it still until it's done. Each tap registers the tag and
writes its link, locked so only your store can change it. Hold the next tag,
and the next. Tap **Done** when you've finished.

If your tags have numbers printed on them, tap **Change number** before
    holding the tag.

A tag that is already one of yours says so: **This is already Tag 7.**

A tag locked by another Fuze store can't be used here and nothing is saved for it: **Locked by another store. Use a new tag.** This is checked before the tag is added, on a phone and on a counter reader. Ask the store that locked it to erase it in Fuze Store: erasing takes that store's lock off, and the tag is free to use anywhere. **Read tags** shows the lock even on an empty tag.

If a write fails, the tag keeps its number but has no link yet. Hold it again, even after you close and reopen **Add tags**, and the app finishes it. On an iPhone, the scan sheet says why a tag was refused, for example **This is already Tag 7.**

## At drop-off

Put the tags on in the register, before you save the order.

Add the items as usual. In the cart, the **Claim tags** section sits under
    the customer.

Tap **Tap to add claim tags** and hold one tag to the device. It shows as a
row, like **Tag 12 · New**. For the next bag, tap **Tap more tags**. An
order can take up to 20 tags.

Save the order as usual. The tags go on the order with it, and the claim
    stub prints with their numbers.

On Android, and on a computer with a Hub reader, you don't need **Tap tags**: with the register open, hold a free tag to the reader and it goes into the cart (**Tag 9 added**). A tag that is out on an order opens that order instead.

- To take a tag out of the cart before you save, swipe its row to the left and tap **Remove**.
- A tag already in the cart, or already on the order, says **Tag 12 is already on this order.**
- A tag on another order is refused with that order's number (**Tag 7 is on order #1038.**). A lost or retired tag is refused too. Neither goes into the cart.
- An order can take up to 20 tags.
- The **Claim tags** row shows only on a device that reads tags, and only when the order stays open. An order saved as **Complete** or **Ship** can't take tags: if tags are in the cart, the app asks you to remove them or choose another status.
- If another register saves the same tag first, or a tag stops working before you save, the save is refused and the cart stays. The tag's row turns red with the reason. Remove it and save again.
- If claim tags are turned off while you're working, the save is refused. Tap **Remove tags and save** to save the order without them, or **Remove the tags** under **Claim tags** and save again.
- Nothing is kept if you clear the cart or close the app before saving. The tags stay free.

### Changing an order's tags

When you load an order into the register to edit it, its tags show in the **Claim tags** section with the time they went out, like **On order · out since 10:20**. You can tap more tags in. They go on when you tap **Update**, and in a laundry store the claim stub prints again with every tag the order still has out. To take a tag off, use the order's **Claim tags** card.

You can also add tags to a saved order. On the order's **Claim tags** card, tap **Add claim tag** and hold a tag. On a phone it reads one tag at a time: tap **Tap a tag** for the next one. Each tag on the order shows as **Tag 12 ✓**.

On the card, each tag shows how it stands, with a progress bar of how many are back. Tap a tag to open it. A tag still out has a **⋯** menu with **Open tag**, **Remove** and **Release without tag**.

If you put on a tag by mistake, choose **Remove** in its **⋯** menu and confirm. This is a quick correction. It works for 10 minutes after you put the tag on (the menu shows the minutes left), and only for the person who put it on. After that the menu offers **Release without tag** instead. See [When a tag is missing](#when-a-tag-is-missing).

A completed, closed, cancelled or voided order's tags can't be changed.

### The claim stub

In a laundry store, the claim stub prints as soon as the order is saved and lists the tags you put on in the cart. Adding tags to the order later prints it again with every tag still out. To print it again yourself, open the order, tap **Print**, and choose **Claim stub**. A reprint lists the tags still out.

## At pickup

Tap the customer's tag on any POS screen. The order opens.

Only Android reads a tag the moment you hold it. On an iPhone, and on a
computer with a Hub reader, tap the **NFC** button on the register (or the
**card** button in the top bar of any other POS screen, or **Scan card** in
the side menu) first, then hold the tag.

Tap **Complete**, and **Claim tags** opens with **Order #1038: tap each tag to collect.** Tap each tag back in. On a phone, the reader takes one tag at a time: tap **Tap a tag** before each next one. The count shows how many are back, like **2 of 3 back**. When every tag is back, a short burst plays and you tap **Collect**.

To take tags back in without completing the order yet, open the order's **Actions** menu and tap **Claim tags**. It works the same way, ending with **Done** instead of **Collect**, and the order stays open. The menu shows it while the order has claim tags, even once every tag is back, so you can still see them. Each tag is a card: one still out has **Release without tag**, one back or released shows how it ended, like **Back** or **Released as lost**.

A tag that was released as lost counts as back.

If you take payment with **Complete** on the register, and the order still has tags out, the payment screen says so and closes without charging. **Claim tags** opens for the order. When every tag is back, tap **Collect** to take the payment again.

If **Claim tags** is switched off, the store has no NFC add-on, or you don't have register rights, **Complete** doesn't wait for tags. Any tags still out end with the order.

### Deliveries

The tags travel with the delivery and come back with the rider. While the order is **Shipped**, its **Claim tags** card has **Check in tags**: tap each tag back in when the rider returns. If the customer kept a tag or it got lost, use **Release without tag**. A shipped order can't take new tags or have tags removed, and it can't be completed until every tag is back or released.

### When a tag is missing

Tap **Release without tag** next to the tag and give a reason. The tag is marked lost and the order can be collected. From the collect screen, the release opens on its own and the collect screen comes back when you're done. The reason field says **Don't enter customer details.** Write what happened to the tag, not who the customer is.

- Staff who can manage NFC release it straight away.
- If **Staff Operations** is on, anyone else taps **Ask a manager**, and a manager approves on the spot, as with a void.
- Without either, the app says only staff who can manage NFC can release a tag.

### Skipping the tap

Two ways to collect without tapping every tag back in:

- **Turn the tap off for the store.** In **Configurations → Preferences → Printing & Devices → NFC**, switch off **Tap tags back at pickup** (it shows while **Claim tags** is on; changing it needs permission to change store controls). **Complete** then goes straight on, and any tags still out are marked back by themselves, shown as **Returned (not tapped)**. The tags are free for the next order. You can still tap a tag back in if you like.
- **Mark tags back for one order.** With the setting on, the **Claim tags** screen you collect from has **Mark tags back**: every tag still out is marked back without a tap, then tap **Collect**. Staff who can manage NFC do it straight away. If **Staff Operations** is on, anyone else taps **Ask a manager to mark them back**, and a manager approves on the spot, as with **Release without tag**. It works while the order is open or shipped.

Tags marked back stay free, never lost. If a tag really is missing, use **Release without tag** instead.

## The Claim tags screen

Every tag shows its number and state: **Free**, **Out** (with the order and since when), **Lost** (with why) or **Retired**. Filter with the tabs at the top, each with how many tags it holds: **All** (every tag except retired ones), **Free**, **Out**, **Lost** and **Retired**.

To see numbered tiles instead of a list, open **App Settings → Point of Sale** and switch on **Claim tags board**. This is a choice for each device. It's handy for picking a free tag at a glance.

Tap a tag to open it over the list. The top shows its number in its state's colour, what it's doing now (like **Free · ready for a bag**) and three counters: **Trips**, **Tapped back** and **Times lost**. Under them, badges note a few facts about the tag, like **3 in a row** (the last three trips came back with a tap) or **Never lost**. **Journey** lists its last ten orders, newest first, back to when the tag was registered.

Staff who can manage NFC can also **Change number**, **Mark lost**, **Mark found** or **Retire** it, right there in the same window. **Retire** asks first. A tag that is out can't be retired, and **Open order** takes you to its order. Marking a tag lost while it's out takes it off its order, with your reason. A retired tag's number and chip can be used again.

### Retiring a tag and clearing its chip

**Retire** ends the tag: its number is free for another tag and the tag can't go on an order again. It works without the chip in hand, so use it for a tag that's lost for good or broken.

The chip itself still carries the tag's link until you clear it. Right after you retire a tag, a device that reads tags asks **Erase the chip too?**:

- Tap **Erase now** and hold the chip. Only that tag's chip is erased. A blank chip or any other tag says **This chip doesn't hold Tag 7's link.** and nothing is erased.
- Tap **Not now** to keep it for later. A retired tag's window then has **Erase chip**.

An erased chip is blank and no longer locked to your store, so you can also give it away or use it in another store. Write something new on it in **Configurations → NFC → Write tag**, or hold it in **Add tags** to make it a new claim tag with a new number; your store locks it again when it writes it. If the app says **Tag erased, but its lock couldn't be removed**, erase it once more.

**Configurations → NFC → Erase tag** asks **Erase a claim tag?** before erasing a tag that is still in use (free, out or lost), because the tag would stay in your list with a blank chip. Retire it first.

Tapping a tag in the app also works. A tag that is out opens its order. A free, lost or retired tag opens a card with **Open tag**, and **Add to order** when the tag is free and an open order's **Claim tags** card is on screen.

## What a customer sees

A customer who taps their tag with their own phone sees the same order status page the claim stub's QR opens: order progress and a masked first name (for example, "J**\*"), never contact details or payment information. You can turn these status pages off. See [the live order-status page](/docs/store/customer-visibility-and-hours). There is no **Share\*\* button on this page, because the same tag goes to the next customer.

When the tag isn't on an order, the page says **This claim tag isn't in use right now.** When the tag is lost or retired, it says **This claim tag is no longer active.**
