# Discount Overview

Discounts help you attract customers, reward loyalty, and move inventory. Your POS system makes it easy to create, manage, and apply them.

## What Is a Discount?

A **discount** is a price reduction on a product, service, or order. It can be a percentage (like 10% off), a fixed amount (like P50 off), or a special offer. Fuze Store calculates and applies discounts automatically at checkout.

## Why Offer Discounts?

- **Attract new customers** with special deals.
- **Reward loyalty** to keep regulars coming back.
- **Move inventory** by clearing old stock with limited-time offers.
- **Increase sales** by encouraging customers to buy more.

## How Discounts Work in Your POS

- **Automatic or manual** -- set discounts to apply automatically or add them at checkout.
- **Flexible scope** -- apply discounts to specific products, categories, or the entire order.
- **Stackable or single use** -- decide whether discounts can be combined.
- **Transparent receipts** -- every receipt shows the discount and savings.

## Field Explanations

When you create or edit a discount, the **Country** and **Currency** fields are auto-populated from your store settings. You do not need to enter them manually.

The **Status** field is not something you set directly. The system determines it automatically. For example, a discount with a future start date shows as "Scheduled." A discount past its end date shows as "Expired."

## Tips

- Use clear names and descriptions so staff and customers know the offer.
- Set start and end dates for limited-time promotions.
- Double-check discount values to avoid giving away too much.
- You can edit or remove discounts at any time.

## Best Practices

- Review your discounts regularly to keep offers fresh.
- Train staff on how to apply and explain discounts at checkout.
- Track which discounts perform best to guide future promotions.
- Keep discount records for easy reporting.
